Guest
Indicate that you are copying it to the local rag. That might stir them. That is a brilliant idea. in theory yes, but I'm concerned with any repurcussions so need to play it softly soflty for now.
Egluntyne
You could ask them to do the "name and address withheld" bit if they publish your letter. If there is a story there, the journalist will want the glory.
superjules
Go Poet!! Good luck with it. I hope you get somewhere with this. Trading standards will get involved in cases of "false description" which this must surely be.
Guest
Go Poet!! Good luck with it. I hope you get somewhere with this. Trading standards will get involved in cases of "false description" which this must surely be. that reminds me when I was at school and the teacher asked everyone if they'd done their homework, I kept silent (cos I hadn't done it). When he found out, he accused me of not telling the truth. I protested that I didn't say anything so I hadn't lied, he said witholding the truth is as bad, if not worse, than lying. I've always remembered that!
Joojoo
I complained about the RSPCA in our local paper but my address didn't appear with it. I think you can just put Name & Address supplied and put a note to the editor that you don't want it included and it should be fine. I really hope you have success with this as, like you, I would have imagined that they were from the hens that were running around nearby. Guest
DH said to me, "why are you picking on the little guy when the big supermarkets still sell battery eggs?" He's got a point I suppose but you expect them to sell battery eggs. My point was, in a farm shop you'd think you were getting free range. I don't know what to do now. I think I'll still send the letter (with a photo of my worst little girl) but delete my address and just not go there any more, maybe I'll go back in a few months to see if anything has changed. I might even take some photos of my girls and have a chat and ask them why they sell battery eggs. If my nerves are up to it, we'll see. The whole thing makes me so angry. I just can't get my head round how people can treat other creatures with such cold-hearted cruelty!!???
Egluntyne
You could maybe point out to him that an area of potential confusion exists for the customer, and that you don't feel you can shop there until you are assured that it has been addressed. Guest
I just found this.... Clearer egg labelling CIWF believes that consumers can only make informed choices about the eggs they buy if the eggs are clearly labelled. In particular, boxes of battery eggs may be hard to spot because of poor labelling. So the decision by the EU to bring in a new EU egg labelling law on 1st January 2004 was very welcome. This law requires all egg boxes to be labelled on the outside with the method of production. Battery eggs must be labelled as "Eggs from caged hens". Other permissable labels are: "Free range eggs", "Barn eggs" and "Organic". http://www.ciwf.ie/campaigns/campaign_egglaying.html so,I am going to e-mail the CIWF people and see what they have to say... superjules
Well I didn't know that. Good research Poet. Shame products containing eggs from caged hens aren't required to carry the same labelling.
