nicki9
My other half has finally relented, I can have new chooks - early Christmas pressie maybe? However he says they need to come from somewhere locally. does anyone know of anywhere in the North Somerset/Bristol area that I can get chickens from? Not sure what sort, how would bantams get on with my gingernuts ?
bridgy chooks
We live south of Bristol and got our girls from the Devonshire Traditional Breeds Centre (www.dtbcentre.co.uk) They are fantastic chickens! It may be a bit far south for you as it's near Crediton however if you like seeing lots of unusual chickens then it may be worth a day out! On their website they show availability...it could be a bit late in the year to get some of the breeds however so if you are interested give them a call... nicki9
Thank you. another friend recommended here as well. I'm thinking I ought to wait until the spring, but it's hard to resist.
Bondinho
Have you tried Nibley Bird Farm in Yate? I'm off there next week as he is getting a new batch of birds in on Wednesday. He has been recommended on here before as well.

chelsea
im in Devon and I agree with the Devon Traditional Breed Centre in Crediton (nr exeter) I know its a bit of a trek, buts it has loads of breeds to choose from, kept in lovely condtions and there is a farm shop/plant shop/ and lovely cafe there so you could make an afternoon of it. We got our new cochins from there a couple of months ago and they are adorable! www.dtbcentre.co.uk
Bondinho
It also looks like that place in Devon sends birds via courier if you are after a specific breed
chelsea
they have very helpful staff. If you ring up before you go they will read out the lists of what breeds they have at what age I dont think they update their "available breed price list" very often. They had cochins, brahmas, orpingtons, sussex, marans, polands, rhode island reds when we got our chooks. If you do go - dont forget to take a pet/chicken carrier as they charge £3 for a box! nicki9
It sounds great. I think I'll persuade OH and kids to go down and look around, (I've heard they do a great lunch there as well !) We can then come up with a shortlist for the spring - or shall I pop in the carrier just in case? I wonder if I could get another eglu ......
