Josephine Chuckles camps out

Recommended Posts

Went out yesterday thinking we would be home before dark but we weren't.

When I did a bottom count one of our chickens was missing. Jo Chuckles had flown over the netting while we were out and could not work out how to got back in.

Layla and I spent ages in the garden with torches, peering into bushes and calling for her (we have a very thick beech hedge all along one side of the garden as well as lots of shrubs at the back). Mike went out later and checked again - and went round some of the neighbours' hedges as well.

We could not find her.

As soon as it started to get light this morning I went out and called her and she waddled up to me completely unfazed by her adventure on one of the coldest nights we have had so far this winter...

All the girls got a big bowl of warm porridge for breakfast

A very happy ending. Please don't nag me it know I was stupid to leave them out like that, especially with some of the stories that have been on here recently.

You what? Of course you're not stupid. You're pretty normal I would say.

I leave mine out loads. I sometimes even go away overnight and just let them sort themselves out, take themselves to bed and (horror of horrors) I expect them to get up and get their own breakfast :wink:

I'm sorry, but they are animals and have to sort their own lives out to a certain degree. They're grown up and can look after themselves just a little bit.
