jomaxsmith
I've just got some Limestone Flour from a horsey supplies place and would like to know how much I should give. I use mash (Grower's at the moment). Thanks Jo

Ain't Nobody Here
What ? I thought I gave my girls every single chickeny supplement in existence. What is limestone flour and what does it do? (Chickens lay ready-made pancakes? Just add milk! )
Christian
It is ground calcium carbonate and is used to improve shell thickness. My Laverne was laying very thin shelled eggs and Egluntine very kindly gave me some limestone flour, within 2 weeks the shells were thicker! jomaxsmith
What is limestone flour and what does it do? As well as Christian's reply, I had read on here that hens need calcium to expel their eggs (hen equivalent of contractions, I suppose). Before I got chooks I thought it was just a question of chucking them some grain and kitchen s"Ooops, word censored!"s - instead their diet gets more hi-tech by the day!
