And now a really obvious question- first egg?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of chickens.

We had our gingernut girls at the beginning of September and they all came into lay within about 3 weeks, although I think the dark days may have an impact on this.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm this.

Hi,

My girls arrived mid December and Betty (gingernut) has from last weekend started laying daily. Her first egg was the weekend before last and I thought she was quite poorly! She wasn't bossing the others like normal and she laid it in the corner by our garage door! The second she laid in a washing up bowl in the outside sink! I worried that I would have to play hunt the egg but she is now laying in the Eglu.

I had my first egg as a dippy egg with soldiers! It was EGGcellent!:D

Someone on the forum suggested that if I wanted them soft-boiled then to wait a couple of days then the shell comes away more easily.
