JoshuaEdwards
Hi, Today I went into the coop where all my chickens were. Kentucky was in the nest box and Colonel came along and tried to move her out the way, but Kentucky didn't budge . So Colonel began pecking her in the neck! and Kentucky was making a short high pitched noise. Can anyone help and tell me what they are doing Have your chickens done this Any answers welcome Josh Edited January 24, 2008 by Guest
welsh sarah
i think they are just sorting out the pecking order i dont think it is anything to worry about unless it gets alot worse sarah someone more knowledgable will be along soon i am sure
Egluntyne
This is the pecking order sorting itself out. They determine by their behaviour who is top hen and who is at the lower end of things. Perfectly normal but not always easy to watch. Him? Do you mean her?
chelsea
sounds like Colonel is the boss and just letting Kentucky know this. My big chicken Ella pecks both my little cochins, not all the time - just the occasional "look here im the boss" sort of peck when they are in her way or if she wants to get to the food first! Nothing to worry about unless its constant and there's injuries. keep an eye on them maybe
Tiggy
you can get an anti peck spray from omlet, tastes horrible apparently & puts them off pecking if things seem to get too bad
