Mrs Webmuppet
Little Miss Webmuppet started talking about keeping chickens after seeing the kids version of the programmes (couldn't tell you which one I was stuck in the kitchen cooking dinner). I of course said oh you can't keep chickens in a garden as tiny as ours .......then she decided to search the internet ( why are 7 year olds so computer literate?) and found this site. Now she's trying to sweet talk the OH into having chickens ( he's even had me checking the deeds to find an out - no such luck - theres lots of mention of no caravans and boats but nothing regarding chickens) Jamie O and Hugh Fearnley-Whatsit have a lot to answer for! Guest
I've wanted to keep chickens for as long as I can remember - when I was really young, I had a picture of Hollie Hobbie feeding hens, and from the second i saw that picture, that's what I wanted. So we got our Eglu coming up for three years ago, and have had various girlies in it at different times, until we were foxed at the end of last year. We were going to sell the Eglu, and put the money towards a new cube in the summer, once this darned belly of mine had popped, but a combination of watching the channel 4 programmes, and getting some really dodgy looking supermarket 'freerange' eggs persuaded us that we could cope with just a couple of chooks in the garden just now. Ain't Nobody Here
he's even had me checking the deeds to find an out - no such luck - theres lots of mention of no caravans and boats but nothing regarding chickens) Just tell him that if he doesn't look at the deeds he won't find anything banning you from keeping chickens . I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that "Ooops, word censored!"ody will ever mention ours to the powers that be - if they do, I'll just plead ignorance (& fight tooth and nail - or feather and claw! - to keep them). I occasionally worry when delivery men have to leave things round the back - somebody officious and interfering might think "she shouldn't be keeping them there!" and tell someone. Highly unlikely ... I hope .
Mrs Webmuppet
There's definately nothing in our deeds regarding any animals. Just that you're not to park a caravan or boat in the front garden. No one's moaned about campervans or caravans parked or even the fact that on occasion we've had a 14ft dinghy parked outside our house ( when the OH has been going off to some distant reservoir to race it) - in fact several neighbours asked if there was going to be a flood and came and admired it ( the little boy across the road was quite impressed). As to delivery men most of them leave parcels in my potting shed next to the gate - last year they couldn't get through the gate - they would have had to fight their way past the giant jerusalem artichoke!
