bronze
Legally you have to if you have more than 50. You can register with less but most people dont

Snowy
I think most people with a few hens in the garden don't bother Debbie. Have a look on their website to see if registering would be of benefit to you. http://www.defra.gov.uk/
Hen Watch
Hi. I completed a voluntary register with DEFRA back in November. There is NO NEED to register unless you've got 50+ poultry. But I decided to do so and I did it online. If you put a mobile tel number on the form they text you regarding any avian flu outbreaks in the country. I know that this is a bit over the top but I just felt if it came close to me I'd want to know pronto so I could take precautions. But having said that it always makes the news anyway. I've had the texts regarding the last 2 outbreaks but no other contact. But I suppose as I am now registered I can be contacted if needed but I personally don't mind that.
