Shiney Chez
the Eglu. Popcorn has had a little look but the others are not going any where near. As it is getting dusky, what do you suggest I do? Leave them to their own devices or try and herd them in?
Egluntyne
It is probably not quite dark enough yet. They will bob for a while longer. One of mine didn't get the hang of it for a whilr and I had to grab her and put her in th through the pophole. Try shining a torch into the run via the pophole...that is supposed to lure them in. Shiney Chez
See I'm already panicking about doing all this right. Been out side just now and our local pheasant has come for a visit
chelsea
dont worry, until they get their bearings they will be a bit funny at bedtime. We were all first time chicken owners once! Hope they go in.
MedusA
See I'm already panicking about doing all this right. Been out side just now and our local pheasant has come for a visit My daughter would be so jealous. She adores pheasants! Egluntine's suggestion of shining a torch through the eggport is a good method, although my girls just went in of their own accord eventually on their first night. Give them a bit of time. They are not usually as stupid as you think they are going to be. And don't worry about feeling anxious, it's natural to begin with.
Shiney Chez
Waited and waited till dark and still no joy. Tried torch and that sent further away!! Waved brush in door of run and lo and behold they went in with a bit of clucking!! Felt bad doing it but they seemed rather confused. Peeped in Egg portand they seem happy enough snuggled together. Can't wait till morning for it all to start again!!!!!!
chelsea
Aha, the good old broom method does the trick! They will go in normally once they've got used to it.
iChicken
Waved brush in door of run and lo and behold they went in with a bit of clucking I did the same thing on the first night but one of them refused to move so I had to attach a box to the end of the brush and gently persuade her inside the Eglu. It was cold, pouring down with rain and I was having to hold the torch in my mouth. The door to the run really doesn't help at times. iChicken
Any photos perchance? Not a hope, I have to say I looked very sorry for myself when I got back inside and stood dripping wet in the kitchen.
