CrazyDaizy
Hello Do chickens eat small stones while they are pecking around in the dirt? I think ours do cos there's sometimes small stones in their droppings. Not that I check that closely! It's hubbys job to sweep their droppings up off the lawn and he says there's often stones in them.
Christian
Yes, they swallow small bits of grit to help them digest food. You can buy mixed poultry grit on line. I leave a small tub in their run.
chelsea
my lot eat stones, sand, compost, little tiny pieces of wood/hemcore amongst many other things so dont worry about them eating small stones they need it because they dont have any teeth and it breaks down the food
lozkate
They eat odd stuff! Having tidied the garden of lots of polystyrene packaging this weekend there were a few 'snow drifts' of the little balls blowing around the garden. Guess who hoovered them up! They've also eaten the feathers off a a pheasant and a pigeon I plucked that were blowing around. They've pecked holes in grow bags (no sign of the plastic). And they drink disgusting green water from the greenhouse bases. Eating stones would be nice!! Loz

Egluntyne
You are giving them mixed poultry grit aren't you? Eating stones is natures way of ensuring they have something in their gizzard to grind up their food.
