Hungry visitor

Recommended Posts

This morning my parrott that sits in the lounge watching through the patio doors started flying around the house screaming.I looked to see what had upset him so much and saw a fat fox trying to sit on our fence poised to jump into the garden. He jumped in and casually sauntered down the garden to visit my chickens. I let out Pixie, the daschund, who woofed her way down the garden so see Foxy off. Poor old foxy has mange.

Fortunately my chickens are secure in their very posh summer house with internal runs, poor little things they think Pixie is a woolf when she visits them, I can just imagine that in chicken language they are shouting 'quick woolf' as she trots past them. They do alot to boost little Pixies ego as she trots back with her head held high as tho she has put those chikens in their place.

Ooh how scary! Good thing you have all those animals to take control of the situation. Perhaps you could make a film? :D:D:D Can't think of a good title just now (too tired) but there must be one!

I had to do a double-take this morning, as I saw some red fur through the plants......I was out like a shot (well, I waddled out like a duck really!) to find it was a ginger tom cat coming to play with Molly (my she-cat) Molly fled upstairs and hid under the bed

Great guard-cat she's turned out to be :D

Blooming cats are a law unto themselves, they never do what they are supposed to :D

My 3 boys are now going through another period of insecurity and one of the little blighters has just sprayed all by the cat flap after the girls staged a raid on their cat food!

Now if the girls catch site of one of the cats surveying them through the cat flap then they go rushing over to peer straight back from the other side

I have had more hungary visitors e.g RATS

They have chewed a huge hole out of my cage and have been visiting during the night, because i blocked that hole they chewed another one (b****y things) but they wont any more as I have put rat poisen down away from the chickens,so i dont think they will be visiting again .

Horrible things. Found what looks suspiciously like a rat hole in the compost heap the other day. Now the BB has insisted we get a blooming great closed composter and we are going to stand in on slabs. As well as getting the 'boys' in to deal with Mr Rat...

"Ooops, word censored!"! we were hoping that if we changed from an open compost heap to a closed composter it would resolve the problem. Personally, I don't have a real problem with them but have one neighbour who really complained when we got chickens and said if she ever saw a rat etc etc etc....

One more thing for her to complain about!

Rats are horrid things aren't they. We get the occasional mouse sniffing around the Eglu - and that usually ends up being patted around the kitchen floor by the cat....I'm not sure she'd be so brave with a rat though. Glad your poriblem is sorted Tamsin :D

8) Lovely pics of your "wolf" and parrot, Tamsin"!

But everyone, if you have rats & chickens, get rid of the rats. At the first sign!

They are a danger to the chooks welfare, and will breed tremendously. First an ignored hole in the compost, then you're over run. I know!

Have rid of them for now, but very vigilant.

It started with a hole in the compost heap, so it'll be closed bins on hard standing for us, plus permanent bait stations & regular checking. You do not want them near the Eglus. If you suspect their presence, take action!

We have a little mouse that lives under the eglu and comes out for the left over corn (not that there's much of that!)

Mice i can live with but the rats are something else

Very sweet that your chickens have their very own pet mousey have they gave him a name :?::wink:

We are getting rid of the open bin in favour of a big closed one (700 ltrs) which we are putting on blocks. i am speaking with the envionmental people on Monday. I want shot of the freeloader!

looks like your rattties will be looking for a new adventure playground  ,no more tunnels for them.

My visitors have not been back,I think they have gone to that great place in the sky.
