mcphail
Hi. Can anyone recommend a good place to get some chickens (our two don't produce enough for a hungry family!!) in the Dorset area. Looking to get a couple of hybrids. Must lay a fair amount of eggs but also be good pets....any suggestions?! Help would be greatly appreciated. ajm200
Hi, I can't personally recommend any breeders as all of our hens are coming from Omlet but have you tried contacting meadowsweet (http://www.meadowsweetpoultry.co.uk) to see if they have an agent that covers your area? ajm200
The only breeder I can find in Dorset is Highbury Hens. Their listing doesn't mention hybrids but you could give then a call just in case http://www.poultry.allotment.org.uk/poultry-suppliers/breeder.php?no=35 Sorry I can't be more help Edited February 25, 2008 by Guest
ubereglu
Where abouts in Dorset are you? Are you close to the Somerset border-Yeovil direction or are you in the Wimborne area? If you are in the Wimborne area of Dorset or nearish to there try and PM Mel (& Paul) as they live there and might be able to suggest a breeder. mayflower
Hi Foxfield house in Ringwood. She does not hatch them herself......buys them in but they are rather cute, and she is chicken mad. Her number is 01425 478528. In yellow pages under poultry farmers and packers. She sells them at point of lay...all hybrids so are high egg producers. Very pretty hens, Mavans, Ambers, Gingernut ect. All POL Although Ringwood is strictly in Hants, it's just a few miles from you. Good luck
mcphail
Hi, Thanks so much for the help- I will give both Highbury Hns and the Lady at Ringwood a ring- they are not too far from my neck of the woods. (ubereglu- Wimbourne is about 40 minutes from my place) Don't know what I'd do without this forum!!
mayflower
Silly me! I meant Marans. Also the lady in Ringwood is on the Omlet list of suppliers.
