over easy
i am currently on my first bag of layers pellets, the organic feed co brand as supplied by omlet. i have been lookin for local suppliers and have found one in leicestershire about an hours round trip away.yesterday as luck would have it have found a company not more than two mins from my house that supplies most animal products and they do sell layers pellets although not the same brand. my question is do you think i will be ok to swap products or do i need to keep them on what they have been used to. surely they must all be similar arnt they? Blackrocksrock
I think it may be like dogs - you would need to change it slowly - I bought normal layers pellets which my hens were used to and a small bag of organic and am mixing it and will do so till the bag of layers normal is finished and change to organic completely
chelsea
I've just changed from standard to organic I bought 2 sacks of organic and what i did with the remainder of the standard pellets and 1 bag of the new organic brand I mixed them altogether. The hens have adapted fine - in fact they are eating more pellets now Once the "mixed" bin is eaten I will then move onto the completely new sack of organic
ali-s
I bought my very first sack of organic pellets yesterday made by the Organic Feed Company Their shape and size are completely different to the normal non organic I buy. The organic are slimmer and smaller than the other sort. I have mixed the two types together. The chickens are going crazy for the organic pellets and are spitting out the other I don't think it matters much if you change brands. You could try and buy a small bag to see if your chickens like them before you buy a big sack.
Tessa the Duchess
I recently changed from A&P organic pellets to Smallholders non organic pellets. I didn't realise you were supposed to do it gradually. I didn't have any problems though Tessa

Liam
Hello, No idea if it's OK to swap brands but if it is, then Harrissons in Radcliffe on Trent are excellent. I assume that's the place you were saying is close to home? If not and if you dont know where they are, it's up Bingham Road, on the left as you leave the village, down a little road, think it's called The Crescent? Cheers Liam
chelsea
I didn't realise you were supposed to do it gradually. I didn't have any problems though Tessa There's no hard and fast rule Tessa I just mixed it so they wouldnt be so their tastebuds wouldnt be so "shocked" plus i had to use up the old sack. The sacks were at the back of the shop. They had 5kg and 20kg sacks. The 20kg sack which I bought was £13.25 The chickens normal brand costs £7.
Blackrocksrock
Yes thats where I bought mine - I had asked before I got the chickens and they said they had both sizes - I bought the 5kg bag just now - and yes it was expensive but...... worth it I think - they are very small pieces and I think they like them but I have some of the ordinary too to mix for a while.
