WitchHazel
hi all I live in Old Windsor, and am looking for a chickenfriendly vet to register my chickens with. I took Scarlett to my usual Vet today, having phoned to find out whether they had anyone who knew about chickens (they don't have a chicken specialist, but one of their does look at chickens) and wasn't really happy. (Which is unusual, as the vet I saw is excellent with my cats). I don't mind having to travel, if it means getting a vet who has a lot of practical experience. I live on the Berkshire/Surrey border, and close to M25 J13 and M4 J6. Can anyone make any recommendations?
Lovemychooks
Hi WitchHazel, there is a Vet in Guildford called Stocton Veterinary Clinic and I read, somewhere on this site, that they are poultry specialists. The number for them is 01483 575155. Trying giving them a call to see what they say.
WitchHazel
That's great LMC, thank you for that.
Cinnamon
hazel, speak with Simon from The Garden Hen. He will know of someone & he is in Windsor - if not I am sure he can help you should you get a problem. I have had treatments for my hens from him before (he even injected them for me!) WitchHazel
Thanks for that Cinnamon. I had thought about phoning him, but it seemed really cheeky. But now that you have suggested it as well, I think I will. Thanks again
Hen Watch
Hi WitchHazel. Would you let us know if he suggests anyone local. I'm in Wokingham and haven't found anyone yet. There was a vet in Ascot who said they would look at chickens but I don't think they've got a chicken vet and I've not needed to go yet. But any info you come across would be handy. Hen Watch
Sorry me again, I don't know who your usual vet is but I found this vet info last year when I was doing general searches for poultry vets. I haven't used them at all but perhaps someone else may have some experience. http://www.foresthousevets.com/index.php Surgeries in Windsor, Egham & Ascot. They have a farm section but it doesn't mention poultry (but on the ever changing pictures on their home page they show a chicken...!!). Also did you see this in FAQ section, got a few Berkshire vets on it. http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4447
WitchHazel
Hi Hen Watch. Forest House don't have anyone with a lot of experience in poultry. I contacted them a on Tuesday and asked them. They did, however, recommend a guy at Kelperland (MoneyRow Green). I'm going to visit Keperland to find out more and will add the details to the FAQ section (thanks for the link). Cinnamon
I know its a trek, but The Henley Vetinary Centre has a chicken lady called Sharon. She is lovely & spends part of her week at the Twyford branch. I have seen her & lot & often phoned her for a quick chat & advice
WitchHazel
Thanks Cinnamon. Henley and Twyford are both easy to get to, and a personal recommendation is worth a lot. If it turns out that the Kelperland guy isn't as au fait as I have been led to believe, then I'll go to Sharon. Thanks again Hazel
