Roxanne
Following the sucess of my chicken jumper I think I am ready for this!!!! I am going to become a grandmother in September and want to knit a shawl/blanket for the new addition. I can find lots of patterns but they all have holes - not of the dropped stitch variety! I have been informed that I need to knit one without such holes as little tiny fingers get caught in them... Anyone got any ideas? We only have one knitting shop round here and it seems to be quite comprehensive, but I just don't have hours to spend looking through book after book of patterns. Roxanne
Thanks for your congrats and the web site. I found a patternon there that my mum knitted when I was a baby!! Needless to say we are using it! One problem is that the needle size on the American patterns differs from the old British and metric sizings. Do you know where I could find a conversion chart?? Keanie Bean
How about making a patchwork blanket using the chicken dishcloth pattern in wool instead of cotton. The website had lots of lovely designs. Sorry I'm not a knitter, feel free to tell me if this is a pants idea, . Sarah.x
Roxanne
I don't know about using real wool for a young baby - they sometimes get rashes from it.... Good idea though!!

Trish
The easiest pattern I know for a holeless blanket / shawl is this simple Use needles size shown on yarn ball band. cast on two stiches Row 1. YO knit to end of row repeat row 1 till you have a triangle the size you want. If you want a square then go onto row 2 Row 2. k2tog, knit to end of row Continue till 2 stitches remain k2tog. it's not fancy, just garter stich, but with a varigated yarn or by changing yarns randomly you can create a nice effect.
