Abbey Road Girl
An amazing package was delivered to me on Wednesday: a rustic willow mini-trug filled with 24 bantam-sized Thornton Easter eggs (caramel, praline, chocolate and champagne truffle filling) and two darling Emma Bridgewater egg cups (hand painted polka dots!). How did the friend who sent it know that the trug would be absolutely perfect for egg gathering?! (Oh yes, I probably have told everyone that my Cube and three Miss Pepperpots are going to arrive on 17th April... ) The mini-trug will probably hold a good dozen eggs should I ever be tempted to add to the Pepperpots, but the expected three-a-day won't look pathetic in the meantime. Trying to link to the Thornton Direct website crashed my computer, but they can be contacted by ringing 0845 121 1911 should you want an egg gathering basket of your own. If you're in luck they may now be selling them at a post-Easter discount. I'd post a picture but I've not got a digital camera yet (unexpected expense of keeping chooks). Would love to know what other people use for collecting eggs.
Eyren
Hi Sue! Another Cambridge dweller here Where are you? (Feel free to PM me if you don't want to reveal your location to the entire internet!) The Thornton's eggs sound yummy - (un)fortunately my DH has given me a Green & Black's Easter egg, so I'm not in the market for more chocolate right now... I have to admit, the egg-collecting implement of choice is either the hand, or the scoop I use for topping up the pellets
Abbey Road Girl
Hello Anne, Lovely to make contact! I use Green & Blacks to make my own truffles (have a great and shameful secret to ensure the cream and choc mix), so the trug excited me more than the chocs. Having lurked for a couple of weeks, I think you are in the village of CH, though I could be totally wrong! I am so excited about becoming a proper hen keeper and this forum is SO informative! I am getting as much as I can ready for the arrival of my Pepperpots in mid-April (the egg gathering trug is a bit like putting the cart before the horse). I think that you discovered a supplier for Hemcore, but it seems that there has been a problem with that. Funny that there seem to be so few horse suppliers in East Anglia! Hoping to get some Hemcore or the awkwardly named Aubiose in time!
