freddie
Now I don't feel such an old harridan for forcing mine up the stairs at a reasonable time! We also live in a village where a lot of young children seem to be out very late, in the dark , with no supervision; and yes, you've guessed it, there is vandalism and all sorts of troubles. I feel far better in myself now, to know I'm not the only one who expects a bit of discipline!! From Stalag 9...... (my eldest is 12, and he needs his sleep, so he goes up at 8, for 8.30 lights out)
Snowy
I needed mine to have a regular routine from a very early age, for my own sanity as much as theirs! Practically from birth we had a routine of drink of milk, bath, story and upstairs to bed at a set time and I've found that they just accept it now they are older. Even now, my 16 year old trots off to bed at 10pm prompt without being asked (although he does get his own milk these days )
Helly Welly
We've stuck to a good bedtime routine since DD was born, i know plenty of parents who haven't and they've had trouble with bedtimes ever since. DD is nearly 9 and does her teeth at 7.45, in bed by 8 and reads until 8.15. This seems to suit her fine, although she's always awake and reading before her alarm goes off in the morning. She really enjoys waking up slowly in the morning so i won't change her bedtime for a while. In the holidays she's in bed by 9 but for the last 4-5 days we go back to the school routine so that she's back into the routine before she goes back to school. AnnieP
I am enjoying this topic. I get so frustrated when the children in my class are tired. I am shocked at some of the times they SAY they go to bed (although I suspect there might be a bit of exaggeration on the part of some of them). I can distinctly remember going to bed at my age, ie when I was 6 I went at 6, 7 at 7, then 8 at 8 and at that point it stopped until I was 10! when I reached the luxury of a 9 o clock bedtime. Nowadays I am still in bed by 9!
