snowcloud
I have always made sure there is a collection of big branches linked together in the chicken area for them to climb on and perch, but when we are out and the chooks are forced to stay in their Eglu run, I realised they had to sit on the floor. So at first, I stuck a couple of thin logs in their run for them to sit on, but then tried to wedge an appropriately sized branch in the sides of the run. This has become a major hit with the chooks and they are always perching on it now, especially if it is sunny and they want the shade of the Eglu run and something to perch on in comfort. Of course, today they used it to avoid the snow...! Has anyone else tried this? See the blog for more snow shots from today!

Keanie Bean
Thats a really good idea, I'm going to go branch hunting now, although it will have to be the park as I dont have anything even resembling a tree here unfotunately. Sarah.x
ubereglu
Love the picture. I haven't tried it but my hens tend to run around the garden all day anyway!
daj198
Hi Snowcloud! Great idea! I was so inspired that I decided to try it myself. I hung it by string instead though as I was worried about damaging the run converter. Here it is: Agnes tried to perch on it but fell off! I'm hoping they'll get used to it... snowcloud
Dom - that is great! I must try and set one of those swings up for our girls too; it would be great if they learnt to use it! It's a great twist... ... anyone else got ideas for chicken furniture?
Ain't Nobody Here
Here's my girls' furniture. (It's half an Ikea shoe rack, in case you're wondering .)
daj198
Thanks Snowcloud Tell us how it goes! I'll try to get a picture of them using the perch/swing if they get the hang (pardon the pun) of it.
