FruitandNutCake
After less than a week of our 3 chickens arriving, we have been presented with our first egg I thought it was a bit strange, all 3 chickens were queued up in the corner of the shed, where I had put some straw. I think it was Bonza who had laid it, as she was in the actual "nest", whilst Chuck and Dinks were hovering. They then went away for some food for a while, but when I checked later, they were all by the nest again. Checked later again and Bonza was in shed and I saw The Egg! It was still warm! FruitandNutCake
Thanks - it's my 7 year old holding it! We haven't eaten it yet - I think I'll scramble it for J's breakfast. I'll just have to wait for the next one. I keep going out every 10 mins to peak through the shed window to see if there are any more!! FruitandNutCake
At some time betwen 11:30 and 12:30, Fair Dinkum lay her first egg, in the box filled with straw in the corner of the run. She took her time -going in and out for ages, and scratching around. So J had Bonza's egg scrambled for breakfast. And now he is eating Dinkum's egg fried for lunch! Maybe Chuck will provide one for tea! And the eggs are different - Bonza's was smooth, and dinkums was rough with brown speckles! My parents were visiting at the time - and they couldn't believe how excited I was!
Chickvic
Fantastic! We've had our first egg today and my daughter and I were very excited! Did you do the egg dance?
FruitandNutCake
I've never seen the egg dance! Is it on Youtube? I had to contain my eggcitement a little with the second one, as I had a double glazing man trying to price up my quote whilst I was running in and out every 10 mins checking on progress - it was like waiting for a baby to arrive!! nicki9
congratulations - nothing like those first eggs!
FruitandNutCake
That one was only 42g. Dink's one was 46g and todays one was 40g. I'm definitly in need of more chickens - as 2 eggs a day is just feeding J, and I want a couple too! I was talking to my mum about selling her some, but I don't think I'll have any spare at the moment! Counting down the weeks till I get my ex batts! Mutrix Farmers
I weighed an egg that I bought last week from the farmshop - a hefty 70g. I did show it to the girls but they didn't seem impressed! Before you know it FruitandNutCake you will have more eggs than you know what to do with and you'll be asking for ideas on what to do with surplus eggs
