mash am i doing right?

sorry :oops:

im using mash, in the mash it has little coloured bits etc.

now when i need to feed them, thats all gone just, left with a brown powder,

do i bin that and put new in?

or top up mix it.

 

also do i need to add limestone, boshki bran and poultry spice to the mash or has it got them already in?

I just top it up, and add the limestone flour and Bokashi Bran at the same time.

 

Ordinary layers mash will have some shell hardening ingredient in it already, but you can add the flour too.

 

It does not contain the Bokashi Bran already however.

Like Christian says debbie they will pick out the big bits first but they do still eat the powder, mine are just the same..........The thing to do is just top up the feeder and mix it round a bit. I don't use Bokashi bran or Limestone and my chooks are fine i sometimes add a bit of poultry spice when they are moulting...........Your chickens will be fine with just mash it should contain all the nutrients and vitamins they need, you could just treat them in the afternoon to a bit of mixed corn.

grt thanks and grit, i have seperate in a little conatiner for them, mine i have limited there treats nwo to couple times a week only, had gone down to 1-2 eggs a day now bk upt to 5-6 with in a week of cutting treats out everyday.

if kids want to give treat, i mix them a layers mash, and the kids think its a treat for them :wink:

Hi Debbie,

 

Someone asked pretty recently about what people added to their mash and got lots of replies so could be worth you having a look at that for ideas.

 

I tend to top up the mash daily and then once a week chuck what's left away, wash the feeder and then start afresh.
