So sorry to read about Spice, but when they have to go, what a way... rather than suffering at the hands (or mouth) of a predator or being unwell.

I dread the day I am confronted with a dead bird...

P.S Am I the only one who makes their chickens tea every night?

I make my chickens tea every day. They don't fully free range so it is my way of counteracting my guilt! I give them all sorts of treats - rice, pasta, weetabix, porrige mixed with grapes, tomatoes, brocolli, strawberry tops, grated cheese, yoghurt... infact anything I keep for them or find in the fridge.... but obviously not all at once!! I lace it with crushed egg shells, chicken spice, limestone flour and occasionally vermex.

I have to make up two platters so the Omlets and the ex-batts eat separately. As I walk into the hen house, all hell breaks loose! I put the Omlets platter down first and there is a manic scrabble for all the 'red' foods. Then (2 seconds later) the other platter goes down about 3 yards away and I have to shoo the ex batts over to eat from there, before they get pecked out of the way by the Omlets.

Eventually the Omlets run over and see what is left on the second platter and the ex-batts run over to the first platter to finish off whatever the others have left!

 You have to see it to believe i... it makes me laugh every day! When things cool down, I get a handfull of corn and they all come to eat from my hand - the ex-batts especially, and they also jump up onto my lap now... so sweet!
