Matilda needs someone very special to adopt her

Recommended Posts

We started out with 3 chooks from Omlet a couple of years ago. Penny was killed by a fox soon after we had them - leaving Maisie and Matilda (both Gingernut Rangers). They were two very happy chooks - went everywhere together and if one was laying, the other stood outside the Eglu on “maternity duty”.

Maisie hadn’t been well for a while and she died on Tuesday. Matilda is a bit mystified as to where Maisie is and we think she is getting lonely already. Soon we won’t be able to continue to keep chooks, so we can’t take on more hens to provide the company she needs.

Matilda is not at all aggressive so could be pushed around by a bossy, established hen, so what we would really like would be for someone who perhaps wanted to adopt some rescue chooks to adopt her too.

She is used to free ranging so she would need to be allowed out. We do also spoil her quite a bit with treats - but she does reward us with a lovely egg nearly every day. She is picked up and cuddled a lot too.

Our plan would be to sell our Eglu (Mark II) with the run and extension, shades, feeders plus all our other chook things (aubiose, medicines, worming stuff, etc) for an extremely reasonable price to someone who could promise to spoil her and love her as much as we do.

Sorry I can't help, too far away, and mine don't free-range as much as yours is used to.

You might try posting this in the 'Free to a Good Home' section of the forum as well, in the hope of getting a wider audience. We are a bunch of old softies on here, and I'm sure someone will open their Eglu run to Matilda!

I have pm'd you - I don't have any hens at present, but we have a lovely gardem with gravel/grass/wooded area and we are thinking of adopting some ex-batts. I would let a hen/s free range whilst I am outside with them, but always put them away whilst I am out/indoors.

If there was any way I could take her I would as I have 5 non aggressive ex batts - but we are 500 miles away, unless you are driving this way any time soon?

Our hens free range lots, get hugs and treats at bedtime - and do NOT ever walk into the house to hurry the treats along !!! no no not our hens :D

Susie :D
