First egg due??????????????

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Am off work today, feel awful, flu like symptoms, tried to drive in but had to turn back as couldn't concentrate.

Just nipped out to the girls to make sure they're ok, opened the run door and after a min or two Rosie came up to me and then squatted in the corner and allowed me to stroke her!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D She's not done that before :!::!::!::!::!:

This happened twice, shocked, I came inside and sat in comfy chair nursing my bones when I noticed that Rosie had dissapeared. I crept back out again and there she was in the nestbox making soft cooing noises.

I've left her to it, both Maisie and Rosie are in there now leaving poor old Daisy sat on the run floor!!!

Could M&R be laying their first eggs? We only got them on Saturday???????

Am sooooooooooo excited :!::!::!::!:

Hi Lisa,

I'm always excited when I see three hens in the run, not four! :D

I would guess that Rosie is in the nesting box for a purpose.

Hope you feel better soon. Do remember that hens can catch some of our diseases. If any of them seem a bit poorly I think you can put citricidal in their water. (Waits for Egluntine to give authorative reply!)

They can get the sniffles, Lisa. But most cold germs are transmitted by our hands so you can reduce the likelihood of their catching anything from you by washing your hands before you come in contact with them or their surroundings.

It does sound like Rosie has laying an egg in mind. Hope it's not a figment of her imagination!

Thanks for that Sue! I've got some antibacterial hand wash that just dries on so I'll use that for the time being. They have had lots of vaccinations against different things so fingers crossed......

Maisie has just made a 'proper' chook noise, loud enough for me to hear it in the house, wots up with her :?::?::?: Rosie is still in the nest box, is M waiting to go in and telling her to hurry up? Thats the first time I've heard them make that noise, up until now its been soft cooing :shock::shock: Its funny how M keeps dissapearing into the box to see whats going on, Rosie has been in there for the best part of an hour now....hang on I can hear that loud noise again, its Maisie!!!:shock::shock::shock:

Lisa

It just like waiting for a baby to be born this first egg business!

That was what Roast did the other day before finally laying her little egg, she went in and out of the nesting box about 5 times and then finally sat in there for slightly less than an hour. Result a little 34g egg - beautiful.

That was Sunday and I am still waiting for her to do it again

Wait till they actually do lay they announce it to the world at the top of their voices :!:

Mine didn't - I was really surprised . We knew she was going to lay and sat in the garden waiting for the big squawk - nothing. She came out of the nesting box after sitting there for 50 mins and left her egg behind her
