My eco solution to rat problems

Still planning on keeping my eglu, I love it. It has a convertor on and I just wondered how many extensions it could have on it? Any pics out there? Is it still movable?

I think Egluntine holds the current record . Is it run plus converter plus 2 extensions? Not sure .

It is converter plus one extension per green Eglu.

 

 

They will soon be decamping to my walk in run, which is up but just needs a bit of tweaking.

I've got a converter plus one extension, but wouldn't want to make it any longer. It is very unwieldy and looks like a tunnel.

 

And of course if you want to get anything out of the run (mislayed egg, rotting veg, etc) the rake isn't long enough and you have to crawl in. But it's the getting through the hole that I hate, so the fact that the run is longer doesn't make it any more unpleasant inside.

I've never crawled in.

 

I have a neat trick with a long handled spoon to catch the odd egg that has been laid in the run.

 

 

Apart from that I dismantle the whole thing when it is time to get the jet washer out.

I have a Wolf make of hoe with detachable parts, which means I can attach it to the short handle. So every time I need to go in (not all that often), I hoe the impacted soil in front of me as I make my way through. This means that I don't crawl in anything nasty, and it also reduces the central hump that my hens create.

 

The hens love the light soil afterwards, and soon restore it to the way they like it.
