double yoker perhaps?? also question!

Recommended Posts

Have had 8 eggs so far - not including 2 damaged in the egg port - and they've been steadily going up in weight so much so that this morning have just been out to check and there's one 70g in there!! as yesterday's was 42g I'm so hoping it's a double yoker!!

Also just wondered, is a freshly laid egg slimey? Otherwise it must be hard for those poor chooks passing something dry, nasty chaffeing - sorry if that's to gross an image but I know what I mean!!

Thanks

It could be a double yolker if the normal size is around 40g. But they will get gradually bigger as they mature anyway.

And yes, a new laid egg is wet and shiny - the liquid dries really quickly on contact with the air and creates a protective film over the shell making it less porous. Try and catch one in the act - it's amazing to watch! :D

Thank you snowy! As it's Saturday I'm probably going to be ouside most of the day seeing who it is tht's laying!! Not sure how much egg colour/size variety we get out of the chickens we have, so would be good to 'catch them in the act' My husband has already bagsied today's egg!

Thanks again

mine were earlier than normal today and Sugar was waiting pacing up and down for Cocoa to finish so she went straight in after! but oldest son collected his first egg this morning, they have been laying when he's been out or at school. Two warm eggs- you cant beat that (or his smile)

Ours are gradually getting bigger but we have a way to go before we get to that size

I have just collected my 10th egg since they started laying on monday, another warm one!! and I know who laid this one as I had a couple of sneaky looks! but didn't want to distress her more so waited until I saw her come out of the cube and dove straight in!

Here's a pic of 8 - we ate the first 2!!

I saw one lay!!! well she sort of stood up and it dropped out, and yes it was covered in liquid, my parent's were over visiting so my husband was horrified when I ran into the kitchen going 'I've just seen it lay and it's still got fanny gack on!' Luckily I know my parent's well!

But in my defense it was!
