Has anyone tried making Roman blinds with black out material and if you have did it work or was the material too stiff? We bought roller blinds from Argos last year but I have to mend them on a regular basis as they're so flimsy and it's driving me potty.

I haven't done it but I would have thought that black-out material would make good roman blinds. Hope you have a good sewing machine.

I haven't made any for years, but it's a fiddly process. I think I saw some in Homebase though, you might want to check.

I've made them in the past and once you've got the measuring side of things sussed, they're pretty easy, as it's straight lines;

with blackout material, you'd need to get a canvas needle for the machine, and you'll be fine. Go on ; give it a go!!

I made some for our kitchen 2-3 years ago with black out lining. I had no problems at all, other than they they were too dark!! We've since put roller blinds up, as we only needed a sun shade, rather than total black out

 

The Roman Blinds were really easy to do once I'd got all the measurements sorted so that the folds hung nicely. I also used a check fabric which made it even easier to sew in straight lines.

 

I searched the web for some easy instructions and printed them off. I would really recommend ironing as you go to. Helps keep the fabric nice and neat and makes sewing easier.
