SLK69
Mmm am thinking of getting another extension I've a cube and 2 metre run at the moment but doesn't seem enough room. 4 out of 7 days they free range from dawn to dusk but the other three we work so they only get an hour first thing and 3 hours at night. (we have 5 exbatts) Does any one have 2 extensions or more on their cube and can it still be moved? I know technically they have enough room - but it doesn't seem like that to me - and they are so used to free ranging - maybe I should never have let them out the run and they wouldn't know any better. sigh i hate when they do that mad pacing thing at the gate. Hen Watch
Can't help you with the cube extention question as I've an eglu. But just thought I'd share this. When mine are locked in their run whilst I'm at work, they "camp out" at the run door and pace up and down. Today, they free ranged all afternoon. But for a good couple of hours all 4 decided to "camp out" at the wooden gate to their enclosure (which is half my garden). Why??? no idea. I think it's a case of "the grass is greener on the other side".....
Trapper
Hi i've got a cube plus 3 extensions so the whole thing is now 4 meters in lengh. I did have 5 chickens in that but now sadly I only have 3 but I wouldn't have it any smaller. They seem to love the size which is handy as mine is on a permenant site. I have tried to move the run but it is difficult and heavy (I'm quite strong and young) thats why it sits where it does and I don't move it. The only way I did move it was to seperate 2 meters of extension and lift them on their own and then move the cube on it's wheels with the other part of the extension still attached. Hope this helps. Snowy
Mine have a 4m x 2m run and they still go berserk to be let out. When I let them out they all camp on the back door step. I am not letting them have free range of my house!
moomin
I think you could get away with a one metre extension and it would make all the difference. I remember thinking when I had a cube (briefly - because it leaked ), that the 2m run was a bit small for the 6 chickens that Omlet recommend it can accomodate. My 2 little chooks share an Elgu with the standard run at the moment. When I go out in the garden they tear about at the door wanting either a treat or to be let out (quite often they get neither because I don't want to spoil them!). Then when I do let them out, after half an hour they will go back in! To chill out or for a little sleep or a snack! Don't let them make you feel guilty!
