Too old to lay eggs or does she have worms?

Recommended Posts

My lulu is only 18 months old but has been a prolific layer of eggs, every day and some at 95g! The last week she's been laying eggs with no shells or very soft shells. I've had chickens for 18 months so know that you do get the odd soft shell. Perhaps she's stopped laying although she seems a bit young but looking on the health forums could it be worms? Can see any in her poo but it is runny. Have never wormed them and they do free range. What does anyone think? :?

Hi

I have a similar problem at the moment. My two girls are just over two now, and one is laying softish shelled eggs and the other seems to lays the insides and then pass an accumulation of shell  ewww!

Anyway, I wormed them both this last week and day two the second one (Miss Priss) expelled a few worms. Both girls freerange btw.

I've been told today that limestone flour helps harden shells, and oyster shell as well.

Hope this helps, Lisa :)

I leave a pot of crushed oyster shells and mine help themselves to it regulary. The egg shells are quite substantial so its being put to use!

I bought a tub from Pets @ home which i now know was blooming expensive at around £3.50 after i saw it in local animal feed store for about £1.50 for a huge bag!!!
