Eggs too big for boxes???

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My two ex-batts always laid big eggs but now their eggs have become too big to fit into egg boxes  I think I will get some jumbo size boxes from flytesofancy.co.uk but really wanted to give out the four egg egg boxes, they are FAR too big to fit in them. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just that ex-batts lay big eggs as they are big birds?

Thanks

Well, I measured an average egg and it's 7cm long, 6cm circumference and 83g. They're all that big! I've broken two eggs in the last couple of days trying to get the lid shut on the boxes, I've resorted to tying them up with string. (Don't worry, the eggs were only cracked so I managed to use them in cakes! No waste in our household!)

Does anyone else have this "problem" with ex-batts as I might get some jumbo egg boxes but only if ex-batts that I might get in the future will lay giant eggs too.

Shirley, one of my original PP hens lays massive eggs. I have to tie the boxes up with string or ribbon so they close. I make sure every box has a Shirley egg in it, as people always comment 8)

Have yet to find a box of four that is big enough, but duck egg boxes of 6 are perfect.
