vaseline on combs?

Recommended Posts

i heard recently that in the winter you have to put vaseline on their combs to stop it from hurting :? . i had never seen or heard anything about this before and i wondered if it was the done thing to do. and if it is how often, how much, and how do you do it without making a right 2 and 8?

I have never done this, and all my hens have survived the winter with intact combs.

I imagine it might be more necessary up in the icy wastes of the far north. But perhaps it is a good idea if your run isn't covered and it is a really bitterly cold spell.

If I had to do it, I would warm the Vaseline to make it softer and do it through the eggport when they were dozy.
