Any recommendations for a sandy beach near Brighton?

Recommended Posts

We're off to Brighton for a few days soon and although Brighton is lovely for a family holiday with so many activities for rainy or sunny days, I'd love to take my toddler to a sandy beach while we are there so that we can build sandcastles.... any recommendations?

Not much sand near Brighton really. You could go along the coast eastwards to Camber - loads and loads of sand there. Or I think there is some at Littlehampton to the west. Near littlehampton is a little place called Climping or Clymping. It is a tiny little alcove place, but has sand.

Good luck and have a nice time!

As Ginette says there isn't much sand near Brighton i'm afraid. West Wittering beach near Chichester - further along the coast - is gorgeous and sandy (blue flag i think) or you could try Seaford beach - stones but loads of cliffs to walk on too, really pretty and much quieter then Brighton. And much nearer Brighton then West Wittering.

The only photos i can find to show you don't give you a very good idea of how nice West Wittering is. But here is us at West Wittering (albeit in October!)

And here is Sunset over Seaford beach (only daytime ones i could find had me in my bikini many years ago in them! )

Can i recommend a walk on Ditchling Beacon on the South Downs just outside Brighton to? Its lovely!

Have a nice time wherever you decide to go!

West Witterings is lovely - i went there last year with some friends and it was great! There's a grassy car-park area behind the beach, im not sure if you can camp there or not but might be easier to camp for a night as it's a bit of a trek from brighton. Or just wait for the tide to go out in brighton as then it's sandy and you can make sandcastles! Shoreham beach (about 20mins away) is probably nicer for that kind of thing and when the tide does go out there's quite a lot of sand :-)
