Jacky
Hi haven't used the forums for quite some time. Sadly my Gingernut ranger went to chook heaven last Sunday evening, I am going to pick up 2 new chooks tomorrow but was just wondering whether I could get 3? muzzie
We had ordered 4 as they web site said the eglu was for 2 to 4 hens well last week we had a bloodbath after more then several days of constant rain and the girls not being able to freerange and fighting for nest time. We now have 2 of them recooperating with purple butts in a dog crate in the family room and the other 2 outside in the eglu. I personally do not think that the eglu and run can be comfortable for more than 2 hens. We now have to make a descision as to the fate of the other 2 hens. Gallina
There is room in the Eglu for four hybrid (i.e. small) hens, but the run is not big enough unless you can let them out a lot. This is assuming you have a Mark 2 Eglu. The Mark 1 Eglu will only sleep two hens.
Jacky
It is the mark 2 eglu and they have a large area to free range in so they are not confined to the run only
Willow
Hi Jacky, Mine free range a lot of the day and I have 5 chickens in an eglu without any problems. I wouldn't keep that many if I had to keep them in the standard run during the day though. I had planned to upgrade the eglu for something bigger (took an extra 3 in at short notice) but realised I wouldn't need to.
Jacky
Thanks Patrica, that's put my mind at rest. 3 it is then off to pick them up tomorrow
E4eggs
I've four in an Eglu, two Omlet girls and two ex-batts. I've an extended run and they free-range as often as I (or my kids) can keep our beadys on them. They seem happy enough, and indeed when I've peeped in at night they all squash together in a row leaving a space on the other side.
