Hi there,

 

I have some landscapers coming tomorrow to re turf my garden and they want to use a rotvators and diggers to dig up my garden but apparently its very noisy... what should i do with my chickens? bring them indoors, or will they be ok with the noise going on around their run?

I think they might be ok to be left outside but if the rotovator is going to go quite close to their run can you move them at all? Can you put them out of the way of the actual works?

 

I find whenever my husband is creating a din in the garden they couldnt care less, even the lawn mower going quite near to them doesnt bother them.

 

Im not sure that this is because they know him though.

We had similar work done last week - a new patio was laid. Believe me when I tell you that the girls managed to squawk louder than the machinery!! They will be absolutely fine in their run - one of our girls escaped and was quite happily free-ranging around the guys.

We are having a path laid and there's been hammering going on breaking up concrete etc and they were not one bit bothered. Think they enjoyed watching what was going on.

We recently re-turfed our garden and we hired a rotovator. It was very noisy but the chickens didn't seem to mind and pretty much ignored it all.

Same with us, we're laying a patio and cutting slabs with one of those disk thingys and a concrete mixer going - they don't mind a bit infact they look like they want to get out and give a hand!!

mine didn't seem to mind hubby and son using the shredder to make chippings for their run. Maybe they knew it was for them!

They should be OK. They might startle and bok bok at first, but then will settle.

 

Mine do this when I mow the lawn or use the strimmer.
