karamac
Hi, We sadly had to put one of our ex-batts, Noodle to sleep yesterday as she has developed peritonitis and the vet said that there was little that could be done. We are so sad and miss her so much already... We have her two eglu mates left who seemed fine initially last night however this evening one, Chilli has become very quiet- she is standing in the garden quite still, sometimes closing her eyes. Her droppings seemed normal although she did pass a couple f watery ones before we put her to bed. Her crop feels reasonably full and she did eat a bit this evening, but not as enthusiastically as she normally does We are now really, really worried that she is sick too. Her tummy doesn't feel hard and she laid this morning. Do you think she is just pining or could she be sick? Please help.
Egluntyne
Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about Noodle. Chilli could be just pining. Has she passed watery poos before? Have they been wormed recently? If not it might be worth giving them a course of Flubenvet.
karamac
Hi Egluntine, She has occassionally had a few runny ones in the past, but usually after a day of overindulging in the garden! This evening they were mostly normal, just the last couple she did before bed were watery with white. We only rescued them at easter and it was suggested at the time that they wouldn't need worming for a couple of months. I had been planning to worm them within the next week or two, but will definatley worm them asap now. How long do hens tend to pine for, and is there anything i can do if that is the case? Huge Thanks
Egluntyne
As she has the company of the other girl, she should get over it quite quickly. It is when they are left on their own that they have a bad time. Re the poo, bokashi bran is fantastic for firming up squittery poos, especially if they have been caused by overindulging. You can get it online.

karamac
Many Thanks for your kind messages. One of the hens has jut come bounding out of the eglu with a softie in her beak (yuk!) so hopefully that was the cause and that Chilli will be feeling better soon...fingers crossed! I'll get them back on the limestone flour. Thanks again, will keep you posted.
