redfrock
After last year I thought I was well-versed in all things broody, but no, we have a new problem. Agatha, our skyline (she of the minimal egg production) has decided to go broody. This isn't a problem in itself. However we have booted her out of the cube to make sure she is eating and drinking and she is fluffing right up (quite a sight), head down bum in the air and 'bok bokking'. My previous broodies have just been bad tempered and fluffed up, but for some reason Agatha's behaviour is setting the other girls on edge and they are all chasing and pecking her, even our most timid girls are at it. Some of them are squaring up to her. It is only happening when she starts making the noise. If she plays at being normal they leave her be, but the problem she is insistent on being peculiar and the bickering has the potential to get nasty. Any thoughts please? Cinnamon
All I can think of is to bung her in a broody cage,in the pen. She will be protected, fed, watered & will snap out of her broodiness too
Egluntyne
I agree with Cinnamon. It will be the quickest way of sorting her ut. Can you borrow a wire dog crate?
Stevie
I was recomended buying one of these last week cause my broody wouldnt snap out of it.Just flip it upside down so the tray becomes a roof, zip tie it to the cage and then stand it on two bricks so air can come up beneath to cool her down.I was also told to make her as uncomfortable as possible so standing on the steel cage does the trick. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24-Dog-Puppy-Cage-Cages-Crate-Crates-Quailty-Product_W0QQitemZ260247842516QQihZ016QQcategoryZ20745QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Its cheap, fully galvanised so wont rust and it all folds down flat for easy storage.
