Shelley Cockell
Hi - does anyone know if I can use Poultry guard on the chickens? I seem to recall reading somewhere that you can, but as the poultry guard we have was decanted into a seperate bottle we don't have any instructions other than dilute 9:1. Quick response appreciated as I am cleaning them out now! Thanks Shelley
Egluntyne
I doubt you'll get a quick response on a day like this. Everyone will be in the garden.

Abbey Road Girl
Uh, sorry, but I haven't a clue. Is this the first time that the forum has failed to answer a question?
Egluntyne
Have you tried *googling*? I found these http://www.poultryguard.com/ http://www.barnworld.com/sa/p/PoultryGuard_Dusting_Powder.htm The first doesn't seem to be what you are looking for and the second doesn't appear to be available in the UK. Have you got the right product name?
Guest
do you mean 'poultry shield'? http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/acatalog/Poultry_Shield_Red_Mite_Eradicator.html#aP_2dS_2d1 never a good idea to decant chemicals into alternative containers. superjules
If you are talking about poultry shield, I don't think you are supposed to use it on the chickens themselves. I use it to clean their housing, feeders and drinkers and that's about it.

Egluntyne
Shelley, I found **this excellent article** about Redmite. Well worth a read. With particular reference to Poultry Shield: Poultry Shield is possibly one of the best known products on the market, it has been very successful and has been well tested over the last few years, the liquid cleaner is diluted in water at a rate of 20 parts water to one part Poultry shield for use a protection but this dilution can be increased to 10 to 1 if you have a severe infestation. The product works on the basis that the insect has a wax coating on the body which is dissolved by the cleaner, when using Shield you will see a greenish liquid coming from the areas treated this is the mite being dissolved. The Poultry Shield can be used with the birds in residence but is not actually recommended for use on the actual birds. When using any liquid product you have to make sure all the joints and crevices are well covered and soaked to ensure as much penetration into the housing as possible. The cost of Poultry Shield can vary but it is around the £20 price range for 5ltrs, when purchasing makes sure that this is the genuine product undiluted. I hope that helps.
