missuscluck
I have been to see our bees this evening. I dont usually have a lot to do with our bees to be honest as my hubby and youngest are really into it and do all the 'keeping' dutys. I just help out with the extraction and getting the honey into jars. However, this evening in a borrowed bee suit I have been to take a look in the hives to see how things are comming along. I took a few snaps whilst I was there I thought you might find interesting to see. The hives Going into the hive A frame with uncapped honey Further into the hive They didnt seem to mind having their photos taken!

Guest
WOW I keep thinking about bee keeping. Mum is not keen. Mind you she wasn't keen on chickens and has now bought 2 cubes!
Reikiranf
What fascinating pictures, you certainly picked a lovely evening to go and see them, DH & myself would like to keep bees if we ever move to the country but think it will remain a dream as DS is allergic to bee & wasp stings
Lesley
Lovely Photos! We had a look in our hive yesterday as well - not as many bees as yours though I hope the weather stays reasonable for them this year - last year was just the worst year to start with bees

MedusA
I have been hankering after bee-keeping for a couple of years now. Every time we go to any local wildlife or gardening type events, the local bee-keepers are there with a demonstration. I went to one on Sunday and chatted for ages. They told me about a local site in Sutton Park where you can go along and learn about bees. You don't have to get any hives or anything, until/unless you feel ready. I just might go along. What harm could it do.......?
missuscluck
Go and take a look. Its a bit of an odd feeling being in amongst lots of bees as you naturally want to start swatting! Its a really interesting subject. I dont bee keep as I havent got the time really. It gets quite indepth if you get into it. Lesley, yes, last year was dreadfull . We went into emergancy mode and didnt take any honey at all and just concentrated on getting them through the winter. We managed to keep two hives going although one is not as strong as the other. Hopefully we have another nucleus of bees comming in about two weeks donated from our bee keeping mentor. My 10 year old daughter is a bee keeping whizz and he has a soft spot for her so he is giving her the bees, so she will have her own hive It all looking good at the moment and hopefully we will get some honey this year. Its usuall that we do have over 100 jars per season to sell. Last years sales were a big fat zero
Lesley
Yes Lin, do go and have a look - beekeepers usually have spare protective clothes to lend to people who may be interested. Our third hive arrived this afternoon - and is all set up - now, all we need are bees We're hoping to get out nuc soon as well.
