surferdog
After being on their best behaviour for our visitors for a whole week the girls have reverted to form. Sylvie has gone broody again (or at least in her own half-hearted fashion - good job she's not human she'd be one of these mums that leaves their kids home alone while they go to Lanzarote partying). Hauled her out of the nest box again this morning to find her literally covered in egg from her head to her feet. Hyacinth had laid her first softie for a fortnight in the nestbox and Sylvie was trying to hatch it out. She'd obviously been there for a while as the egg had glued the shredded paper from the nestbox to her feet. She then started running around with the other chickens and me chasing her to get the paper off her feet. Sylvie was screeching and flapping and every time she stopped the other two would start pecking the paper which set her off again. To cap it all Coco has attacked Roxy dog who is now cowering in her bed scared to go in the garden (she is not the bravest of dogs) but I guess that's what she gets for sneaking under the Omlet net and scoffing their food. I'm off for a stiff drink and a lie down

meezers
Sorry, but I've been sat here chuckling at your description of the 'eggy chicken chase'. Think you deserve your drink.

Abbey Road Girl
Where was your camcorder? People pay good money to see animal misbehaviour. I'd make it a triple...

surferdog
Sounds like you never have a dull moment. We are starting to get lot more dull moments (how I treasure them!) I was hoping yesterday was an aberration but no - they are all out there crowing this morning . I really think the changes in the weather upset them. They've been as good as gold all last week. Helly Welly
My OH has been working from home a lot, which means he lets them out of the big run before 8am. However, he's gone to the office today and i went to town straight from school, got back at 9.15am and they were crowing their heads off to be let out. Honestly, how we've managed to get this far with no complaints is beyond me. We are completely surrounded by houses and sometimes you can hear the chooks halfway down the street. Chicken chases are always mad aren't they Part of me is frustrated but the other half is laughing at how ridiculous i must look.
