chelsea
Johnsons baby shampoo or a few drops of ecover washing up liquid is what we use. We also have a plain tubtrug of water for rinsing after "soaping". chooks love it!
kannie
I've washed Maisy's bottom several times, but just used plain, body temperature water. No shampoo. Then I've dried her in front of a blow heater (I don't have a hairdryer), stroking her damp feathers to make sure she doesnt get too hot. She's not too keen on the washing bit, but does quite like the warm air & strokes bit! I wouldn't use a shampoo unless theres something specific out there. The dried poo etc came off fine once it got well wetted: its not greasy.

Karen have you ever used white vinegar Karen? Hubby read on the internet that rinsing the feathers in vinegar makes them shine.
Karen Pimlott
no i haven't... i know people use it on their hair... i think it may make them pong for showing though I will ask & see i anyone has used it, tbh if they have the correct diet they have natural lustre anyway. When you first wash a bird it will appear 'flat' at first as it takes a week for the natural oils to be preened back into the feathers as when you wash them its stripped out. 5 to 7 days after washing the birds look fab, hence washing now for tuesday. mine love a bath they love going out and about to shows too, they are well travelled and have been all over the country.... they re show offs too Karen. Sounds great! Ours love a bath too, we dont do it very often, but as the girls have feathery feet we bath them all. They make no attempt to move and seem quite excited and frisky afterwards!
