hello all,

I have cube (GREEN) and 4 girls coming in July and wondered what to put around the edge to stop all the Auboise from being kicked about.

Some have used log roll some wood planks, but will these harbour the RED PERIL ? would like to avoid plastic and was wondering about sleepers but again would they be home for red beasties or if they have been previously treated/aged/pressurised will the be safr?

Any suggestions please?

Thanking you very kindly

Hi Chickeroo

I have heavy concrete slabs around my cube run. The are oblong in shape and fit perfectly onto the run edge and keeps the aubiose in.

Gives my arms a good workout when I have to remove them to clean out the run but thankfully its not that often as they free range all day. :D

Happy hen keeping when your girls arrive!

Best Wishes

Hi Chickeroo,

I just received my cube yesterday but was quite shocked when I saw the amount of spaces that may allow rain into my cube. We get our first chickens in about three weeks (after our holidays).

Have you noticed any oenings between the back panel and the roof?

Regards

Hello Tinty and welcome to the forum if I've not said it already .

I have an eglu rather than a cube but I know there are a few new cube owners who were concerned about spaces/gaps etc. If you haven't already, you might like to have a read in * this section *of the forum.

BTW, I noticed in another post you're in Scotland - whereabouts are you? (I'm guessing north from the midgies comment  .)

Hello Steve and Hello ANH

Okay I've gone all Worzel and put my techno head on !!!!

Yes Steve quite right the edgeing is NNAASSTTYY!

My OH wants to use recycled log roll dragged from the compost heap!!

Me thinks there could be a clash of wills here!!

I'm thinking sleepers but didn't know if they would house red mite?

ANH I like roof idea does it get hot in the sun, part roasted chook?

I think I will do the roosting bars thats good idea!!

Haven't had much sun here yet :( . I tend to take the roof off if the weather's dry - it's held on with bungee cords so it's pretty easy to take off and put on again.

The "roosting bars" are actually part of an old Ikea shoe rack  . I've got another shoe rack perch in there now (a neighbour threw 2 almost new ones in a skip recently  ).

Have you got sticks stuck through the bars too, ANH? That looks like so much fun for them :) And is your run a normal run + converter or have you more extensions? Just pondering how much we could do to ours...

Our girls are *loving* the wet weather - they're looking miserable but aren't inside and every now and then go loopy over some worm or bug or leatherjacket or something that pops up and keep drinking the droplets of rain off the bars of the run :) They're so cute - I'd love to give them more things to play with in there!
