Hi,

I still have yet to push the purchase button, but am getting closer. What do those of you who live in frigid climates do to keep water for you chooks during the winter? How does the glug function in the winter???

It can freeze up overnight here, some people add liquid glycerine? (I think) to stop it freezing. I just add some warm water first thing in the morning to defrost it, but it's not usually cold enough where I live for it to freeze over again during the day.

 

I bet some of the forumers who live in Scotland get colder temperatures, they might have some ideas?

I live Oop North, and it does get a tad chilly now and then.

 

I used to break the ice with the door pin.

 

If it was too solid for that (only very occasionally) I used hot water.

 

Only once have I known it to re-freeze during the day.

I've had that too - when it has been very cold, I've floated a squash ball in the glugs and brought the water in over night.

I put a couple of ping pong balls in each glug to stop it freezing solid. I have seen my girls peck at the balls to break up the ice!
