Can I mix the pellets in with the grit?!

Recommended Posts

I collected my girls yesterday afternoon, I promise to tell more and post photos later!

Quick question though before I go to local place to get supplies!

I have almost everything but I forgot to get grit!

There appear to be 3 types, one for shell production, one for grinding down food and one that does both?

I was going to get another feeder to put this grit in. BF says that the runs already looks crowded with two glugs and two grubs and a cat litter tray for dust bathing, so I don't want to buy another feeding thing if I don't need to, so the question is above,

Can I mix the grit in with the pellets in the grubs?

Can I save myself some pennies or does my credit card have to come out again!?

Thanks everyone, :D ooh SO exciting! *squeaks with excitment*

I'd get mixed poultry grit.

You can mix it with the pellets, but it is really better to give it separately so that they can help themselves ad lib.

Sometimes they go mad for it.

You can but small pots to clip to the side of the run like **these**.

I got mine from a local agricultural supplier.

were told there was grit in our layers pellets . we were to mix some extra grit/shell mix with half a cup of chopped maize (between 6 large hens ) and scatter it in the afternoon . no more maize as they would eat that instead of pellets and get lazy and stop laying . this was from an old boy at the farm feed suppliers who's dad had 8000 ! chickens when he was a boy "and that wasn't yesterday" he added :D . he still does this with his own birds .... :) also if they're free ranging they'll get it naturally .
