Anyone else growing Cos type lettuce?

 

...... I have at last found a use for all the elastic bands left by the postman!!!

 

I've put them on the lettuce so that they heart up nicely - we have the most fantastic lettuce now!

 

They were all growing 'outwards' so I pulled all the leaves together at the top and popped on the elastic band.

Our cos lettuce has been growing well this year too

 

I love crisp lettuce and find it hard to grow iceberg, they always get loads of slugs in them Cos is a good alternative and the chickens love any that get chance to bolt

 

We have also grown a lovely row of american land cress this year which tastes very similar to water cress and is great in a salad and perks up a sandwich no end. Really good with egg

I must try that - next year I guess! This year I've grown Oak Leaf and Rocket from seed easy peasy and bought two Mizuna plants which went in in May- they are famtastic, vigorous healthy and slug-free, taste is like a milder flat parsley.

I picked up some more seedlings plants at the weekend Rhapsody - they are still around. I love oakleaf - that's the other one i grow, and a mixed leaf for cut and come again........and rocket!

We grow Land Cress through the winter - under cover in the polytunnel. You can grow it under a cloche.
