Guest
I'd just like to know, does anybody have a chicken or chickens that voluntarily jump on their laps for a cuddle. Not because you have food or they think you have food, but just because they want to be with you?
Cate in NZ
I had one who jumped on my lap whenever she caught sight of my ring and had to investigate each time . You'd have thought that she'd have realised pretty early on that it wasn't good to eat, so I have no idea whether the daft bird kept on thinking it was edible or if she was attracted to it when the light caught it. Sadly whatever motivated her to jump up it wasn't actually affection as my poor finger got pecked each time . She was quite a cuddly girl though, once on my lap she did usually snuggle down for a bit of a snooze
Laura & CTB
Gucci will jump up onto my sunlounger with me for a sunbathe but jumping on my lap is just a hope that I've got food. One of my new girls, Tiffany, is a real sweety and doesnt mind being held (and kissed and cuddled ) one bit, hopefully she'll grow up to be a lap chcken
Smiler
Freckle and Velma only have to see me sit down and they are on my knee, feathers fluffed up after a chat and a stroke. I was sat cutting my sons hair out on the doorstep a few weeks back with one on each shoulder..............if only I got a picture. My son and I were both crying with laughter as they were picking through my hair as I was doing his.
Faye&Ant
Fearne will run to me as soon as she sees me walk through gate each evening and then follow me around the kitchen chattering away - I would love to think it was affection but I am not a fool it has got to be purely for treats as she knows im such a soft touch Holly loves my OH and will sit with him for ages and fall asleep As for the other two, they hate cuddles and run away from me as fast as possible- oh well can't win them all over
Chooks Aloud
My Dolly will jump up on your lap for a cuddle - you just have to pat your legs. The others will cuddle in, but you have to pick them up. Karen
Guest
My Dolly will jump up on your lap for a cuddle - you just have to pat your legs. .... that's exactly what Maud does, she knows I don't have food, she's doing it purely because she wants a cuddle. I never thought that would happen as I kept seeing the words 'cupboard love' and 'beak led' on here so I thought the best I could expect would be a chicken on my knee when I had food with me. Maud has really surprised me, especially considering her past. She's a gorgeous girl! Love the story about the hair cut!
Mutrix Farmers
Charlotte will voluntarily jump up and is quite happy to be petted. She doesn't seem to be looking for food as I don't normally sit down to feed them. Son decided he was going to take a chair into the chicken enclosure just to be with the girls, and she spent quite a lot of time jumping on his lap or legs. Didn't like to tell him she might poo on his lap
Scooby
My four 'big' girls are only into affection if it means rewards of sweetcorn and if I try to cuddle them they struggle to get away Maybe this is because they've not been used to contact in their former lives as battery girls? However, my littlies, although they don't initially like to be caught, will sit quietly on my lap or tucked under my arm for ages whilst being stroked/kissed/told they are gorgeous
frenchlayer
My three are completely food based too, if I have it they will come and sit until it's all gone. They are happy to be stroked if they are on the floor and we are all weeding or something, they don't duck out the way. but other than that, nope not very cuddly at all. Maybe I don't spend enough time bribing them
