Eco watering systems/ watering whilst on hols

Recommended Posts

Hi

Does any one use watering systems for their pots /gardens/allotment and are they eco friendly?

I've just started to look as we go away in the summer and it would be nice if the plants in the greenhouse and patio and even the allotment survived!

any comments greatly appreciated!('')

Hi there Henny penny!

I bought one a couple of years ago and it is still going strong -

http://www.earth-systems.co.uk/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=78_121&products_id=189

It was much more that £60 when I bought it :roll:

I have added extra pipe and drippers, but it waters my entire veggie garden when I am away with work 2-3 nights per week. really good, lots of settings etc.

I set mine for 3 minutes at 2200/1000 every day. Works well and you can adjust to 'sprinkle' or 'drip' easily 8)

Wilkinsons do a very cheaper version that attaches to a tap but has no timer. The pipe is the same as the gardena narrow pipe and is much cheaper. Like anything, it's the add ons that cost lots :roll:

It runs from a rectangular battery (duracell which lasts all summer May-October)

Hope this helps?

Yep. You just cut the pipe and plug in the drippers/sprinklers.

The extra drippers are expensive, but have had mine for at least 3 years.

The booklet that comes with explains everything and the pipe work is easy to cut with scissors.

I bought some of these a few years ago for my tomato plants as not good at remembering to water pots. I was so pleased I bought more this year. Like Tracy I liked the fact that they did not use mains water (I fill the tanks from my water butts) and don't use battery or electricity to run.

I'm now using them for my citrus plant and blueberry bush- the only problem has been keeping the hens away from anything outside in pots...

(chicken wire encloses plants to keep out hens, rather than makng a run for hens! You can tell who rules our roost!)

I bought 'Big Drippa's'. They have a big water reservoir and you can attach 6 drippas to the pipe that you plug into the reservoir. They are very simple and very effective - I have 4 in my greenhouses at school and it cuts down on the journeys to and fro dramatically. Also they are reasonably priced at £10 to £12 each.
