I have only had my Eglu + birds for a couple of days, but I'm finding that I need to move the Eglu each day because of the volume of poo produced.

I find that it's very difficult to shift without putting a strain of the plastic binders which hold the run parts together and I'm afraid they will break soon.

Does anyone have any tips on the best way to move an Eglu?

The little pastic clips are tougher than you think.I drag mine around the lawn and havent broken once-yet! They do apparently go brittle eventually being plastic so might be worthwhile using cable ties instead which dont degrade in UV light and are dirt cheap.

I move mine every 2-3 days and brush the droppings from run daily then my garden dont smell like farmer Barley mow's yard!

I can vouch for what Jules has just said. I had to move my Eglu to a completely different place last weekend ready for my broody egg-sitter, and I was able to lift it complete with standard run right off the ground after removing the top.

But if you are just moving it around the grass, the Omlet recommended way is just to pull it.

The clips need replacing after three years anyway. I had to put a lot of new ones on my Eglu run, as some of them had snapped in half. I would recommend that people with a cover have a look underneath, because the broken ones were along the centre at the top and I hadn't noticed....

I have eglu + std run + converter. I move the whole lot sideways a few feet as a 1 person job. I grabb hold of the run door end, lift and swing it to one side by a foot and a half. If you remove the poo tray, it gives you a good handle to pick up the other eglu end and move it correspondingly to the new position. I never had a problem with run clips, all were OK, but rubber gloves for hands near the poo tray is a must.

We've had our chickens for just over three weeks now. We've got woodchip from B&Q in the run and the chickens just scratch their poo into it! I haven't ever poo-picked yet. We use a spray of water with citronella oil and eucalyptus oil whenever we notice a smell - which isn't often. I've noticed from here that people seem to have different luck with different things so it might be worth experimenting a bit to work out what works best for you so you don't have to move the run so often. We have ours in one place as it's just not practical to move it frequently, and the chickens get to free range all day long for about 3-4 days in the week, and for a few hours the other days. We'd certainly reconsider the woodchip option if it didn't work for us (as it appears it doesn't for some) but it's fine so far and we've had both hot and cold wet days - still no smell :)

Today I was moving it 180 degrees, plus the other side of the garden - I just took off the lid to reduce the weight and dragged it - I find if you remove the poo tray you have the bottom bar to hold on to and just keep it low and drag it.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm finding that the grass is pretty well ruined (bald patches left) if the run is left in the same place for more than a day, so I think I'll have to reconsider where the Eglu goes.

I think I'll have to put them in a bit of the garden which isn't used and make a permanent place which currently is just soil where I moved an old shed from. This is a bit of a shame because we can't see the chicks from any window if they are round the side of the house.
