Emma&lewie
So eggcited we finaly got our girls today- Amber ( an Amber Lee,!!) Pepper the black star and Rusty (Bovian Goldline) they have setled really well and as soon as I can I will post some pics!! Only thing is both pepper and Rustys beaks look a bit mishshaped I have tried to upload a photo. is this normal? looks like it is not aligned properly and pepper has a little chunk missing, should I call the supplier? Unfortunatly I didnt check this before we brought them home! all new to this!! do beaks grow with the birds? it doesnt seem to be bothering her! AJuff
Congratulations on getting your girls! Have you waited a long time for them? Beaks can be slightly out of sorts when you look at them closely. I don't think it's anything to worry about though. I remember thinking the same thing when we got our black rock home. I'm picking up four new girls tomorrow, two of them are Ambers and my daughter has already named hers Amber too!! She says she'd going to have the one that has the most brown on her!! What colour is your Amber?
Emma&lewie
thank you Ajuff, love them already!! we had a few problems with the coop we ordered so had to wait ages! (unfortunatly couldnt strech to an eglu!!) Ah my son who's three chose the names too, Our Amber is quite pale cream with a gold tinge! Thats ok about the beak, was worried I'd have to take them back- its nearly an our away! plus didnt fancy explaining that one to my boy!! will it grow back at all? Good luck getting your girls tommorow too!
AJuff
Is your Amber very friendly? I have been really surprised to find that our four new girls are very calm, gentle and friendly and it's only day 1.
Hen Watch
Congrats on the new arrivals. Don't worry about the beak too much. You'll find they'll eat and drink ok and all will be fine. One of my girls arrived 15 months ago from Omlet with a chipped, short, rounded, top beak and it's still the same and she's fine. Then I bought a new girl with a normal beak and within months she'd managed to chip the top beak, don't know how, but she's fine too. Glad they are all fine and your children are enjoying them. n2hec
Congratulations on your new girls. I have a feeling you may have got them from where I got my Goldlines. 2 of them have slightly misshapen beaks but they eat really well and are perfectly happy. In fact it was a bit of an advantage when we introduced them to 3 new girls because the pecking and feather pulling was more of a problem for them!! Enjoy them, they're great fun. Emma&lewie
I got them from Cotswald chickens. Jude who owns it was brilliant would definatly recomend them! so excited as the girls ventured out of their run last night- the look on hte cats face as they walked towards her was a picture!!
