x*Lauren*x
Our chickens seem quite keen on having a dustbath, but the only problem is that we dont have an open fire, so we cannot put the ashes in there? Can anyone else recommend what to put in a large bowl for a dustbath, thanks!! xx
Egg Lou
Hi I don't have any ash either.. just use 1/2 compost and 1/2 play sand with a large scoop of diatom/mitepowder mixed in.. they love it!
MadMitch
I just use peat with diatom/mitepowder mixed in, they love it too.
SAB
Yep mine love a soil/sand/mitepowder mix - so much so that they eat it!!!!
Hen Watch
Just lovely dry garden earth........ If you add some Diatom (see Omlet shop) that's a nice optional extra. But other than that, I just use earth. Must keep it under cover though.
Tilly Bud
Mine love a washing up bowl filled with dry soil from the garden! Betty spends at least half and hour in there at a time, she's a proper lady, lazing in the bath! And then she makes a right mess, splashing 'water' everywhere! We end up with soil all over the grass but she evidently loves it! Then she walks around with soil all over her before shaking and sending it flying! It's a lot of fun to watch!
