Moving the Eglu & run for cleaning

Recommended Posts

We're newbies & only received our Eglu + 2 chooks a few days ago.

We wish to keep the Eglu permanently in a corner of the garden which is currently lawn but we plan to have a wood chip base eventually.

I read that the Eglu can be moved around by lifting & dragging from the run end. However, this is not convenient at the moment (we really need to move it sideways) & will not be practical when we have wood chippings with a link-a-board surround.

So that the run area can be cleaned out, is the only way to move the run out of the way, to unscrew the run from the Eglu each time ? Or is there a more imaginative approach short of crawling bodily into the run myself ?

Any thoughts & help appreciated.

Brian

I find the best way to move it sideways (i have to do this a lot too), is to get the chickens into the eglu, then one person lifts the run end and the other picks up the Eglu, gripping it from where the poop tray slides in. Whoever gets the Eglu end gets the best deal by the way, it's very easy to get a grip and pick up comfortably.

Just lift it a small way off the ground and move it along. I've used this method for the time i've had them and it works well, the chickens don't mind either, as long as you're careful that is!

Good luck!

we had a permanent area with our eglu and it worked very well.

Found it easier on clean out day to do one end of the run (the door end) and clean that end out and then go up to the other end - un clip the eglu and rake that out. We had the converter on the run so it was quite long. :)

I move my eglu + run + extention sideways as a 1 person job.

I lift up the run end, pivot it sideways by a foot and a half. Then down to the eglu end, remove the poo tray, leaves a convenient (but pooey) handle, and pivot it sideways again until it's straight. Very easy, could even take the eglu top off to make it lighter as well.
