Busybird
An unbelieveable amount of rain has fallen on my garden. The run is standing in about an inch of water. Chestnut was feeding from the grub and her feet were totally submerged. Could these conditions make chickens poorly? Having kept my girls in the run all morning (at least it has some cover from the falling rain) I have now let them out into the garden. I have put some pellets in an ice cream tub under the marquee we keep over the patio in summer (as a sun shade ). They like to rest on the bar that runs along the bottom of our table and at least they can be dry there although it does mean I need to keep an eye on them (and from inside the house today). It is hard to know what to do for the best in these conditions. With all the wet weather we have been having I have kept the girls in their run more than they have been used to allowing just a little free ranging time in the afternoon. The problem with this is that one of them has become difficult to persuade back into the run when I need to go out. Am I worrying too much about a little wetness? Stevie
Provided they have places to go for shelter when its raining-i dont think it'll do them any harm plus i dont think chooks can get trench foot!
Egluntyne
Mine have had to paddle before now, due to one of the Eglus being in a part of the garden that doesn't drain well in bad weather. They survived. The Eglu end of the run did stay dry though, so they could get out of the water.
Gamebird
I don't think it does them any harm. It might be wet but it's not that cold and they can shelter under the table. They will soon dry when they go to bed this evening.
Busybird
The sun is shining this morning so hopefully things will dry up soon. I let the girls out of their run and they all looked like they were wearing brown boots they had so much mud on their feet Despite being as bedraggled as I have yet seen them when they wandered into the eglu last night they look fine this morning and I had my usual 3 eggs to collect (all with rather mucky shells). The run is still marshy looking but at least it is no longer under water. Perhaps i should consider duck keeping...
